How does CPAP machines work?
CPAP machines are small devices that are located in close proximity to the sleeping patient. Each CPAP machine consists of an apparatus that pumps air and a face mask CPAP that is placed over the face of a person suffering from sleep apnea. The apparatus and the CPAP mask are connected to each other by a flexible tube.
The purpose of the CPAP device is to support breathing during sleep and to eliminate the patients’ apnea episodes. The exact pressure delivered to the patient should depend on the severity of the disease and the nature of the patient’s symptoms. The appropriate level of air pressure should be individually decided by the doctor according to the patient’s needs.
By delivering directly air to the patient’s respiratory tracks in a continuous positive airway pressure, it is possible to maintain the position of the throat and tongue normally collapsing from sleep apnea. Preventing them from collapsing means that the patient’s airways remain open and thus he can sleep peacefully all night.
Reimbursement for CPAP machines
Patients who have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and who have received an order from a doctor may apply for reimbursement of CPAP machines, i.e. for financing the purchase of a medical device necessary for treatment and all necessary accessories, i.e. face or nose masks and the necessary, dedicated accessories. Adult patients can apply for a refund of as much as 90 % of purchase costs, while children and adolescents, i.e. patients who are under 18 years old, can receive co-financing for the entire cost of purchasing the device and accessories.
